Below are some useful websites for cycling in Sydney.

 

BIKEast Projects

  • Safe Streets Neighbourhoods  The Safe Streets Neighbourhood model is fundamentally about seeking council plans and actions to slow traffic in local streets.  This will enable safe passage for people on bicycles for "the last mile" (the final leg of travel).
  • City 2 Surf Veloway.  BIKEast's proposal for connecting the CBD to Bondi Beach.  View the pdf proposal here.
  • Cycling Without Age.  BIKEast are Sydney affiliates of the Cycling Without Age program.  We currently have multiple active trishaws in the Eastern Suburbs area.  Join the Australian CWA facebook group for more details.
  • Cycling with Children. This subgroup advocates for better footpaths for bicycles, tricycles, scooters and prams, especially on routes to schools.
  • Freewheeling.  In July 2018, Warren began a project to digitise the sixty issues of Freewheeling magazine he produced between 1977 and 1989.

Cycling Resources for Sydney

  • BikeWise - Providing excellence in cycle training and consulting services to organisations and individuals
  • Pedal Set Go - Women led bicycle rider education and consultancy for everybody.  Expertise in basic, advanced and urban cycle skills for everyone from the individual to groups and workplaces.
  • Bicycle Garden - a volunteer-run organisation that provides welcoming and vibrant spaces in the community where any person can learn to build, maintain and repair bicycles.  Thursdays weekly at Sydney Park Cycling Centre.
  • Chain Lynx - a volunteer-run bicycle workshop for women / non-binary / trans* folk - 2nd Tuesday of the month at Sydney Park Cycling Centre.
  • Centennial Parklands Cycling - Centennial Parklands is one of the most cycling-friendly public spaces in Sydney.
  • Sydney Olympic Park Cycling - Discover over 35km of safe cycling pathways and see Olympic icons, spectacular parklands and areas of cultural heritage along the way.
  • ARTcycle Inc. - ARTcycle Incorporated is an artist run cycling initiative. They promote art and artist-friendly cycling activities including tours, interactive, cross-discipline and hybrid arts practices at the intersection of art, industry and environment.
  • Sydney Push - Sydney Push is a grass-roots community of Sydneysiders who ride bicycles for transport.  They campaigned tirelessly on the Save College Street Cycleway campaign.
  • The Paddington Society - The Paddington Society was formed by concerned citizens four decades ago with clear objectives that encompass architectural integrity, community facilities, lifestyle, cultural development, and maintaining a history of this special environment.
  • Cycling at UNSW - Cycling is an increasingly popular way of travelling to UNSW.  The Kensington Campus is easily accessible by bicycle and provides almost 600 designated bicycle parking spaces.  Includes a bicycle rack and shower map.
  • BikeTrail.Info - Recreational bike trail information, stories, photos and maps by local resident Garry Robinson.

State Government Cycling Resources

Transport for NSW - Walking and Cycling

Transport for NSW, sometimes abbreviated to TfNSW, is a statutory authority of the New South Wales Government that was created on 1 November 2011 to manage the transport services in the state of New South Wales, Australia.

The entities that were under Transport for NSW upon its creation, as underlined in the Transport Legislation Amendment Act 2011, were:

  • Roads and Maritime Services
  • Sydney Ferries
  • State Transit Authority (Buses)
  • Rail Corporation of New South Wales (RailCorp)

Roads & Maritime Services - Bicycles

Roads and Maritime Services is an agency of the New South Wales Government responsible for building and maintaining road infrastructure and managing the day-to-day compliance and safety for roads and waterways.

The Agency was created on 1 November 2011 from a merger of the Roads & Traffic Authority and NSW Maritime. Planning responsibilities were transferred to Transport for New South Wales.

Federal Government Cycling Resources

Department of Infrastructure, Regional Development and Cities - Active Transport

The Australian Government supports measures to increase all aspects of active transport in Australian communities. The design, project deployment and funding of cycling and pedestrian facilities is primarily a matter for state, territory and local governments.

Cycling and Walking Australian and New Zealand (CWANZ)

 

At the end of 2017, the operations of the Australian Bicycle Council (ABC) were ceased and the Cycling and Walking Australian and New Zealand (CWANZ) group was established.

We Ride Australia

Formerly the Cycling Promotion Fund, they are a strong national independent voice for cycling at the Federal level.
