Woollahra Draft Delivery Program 2018-2021 & Operational Plan 2019-2020

Great response and update from Woollahra Council in relation to BIKEast’s submission to the draft Delivery Program 2018-2021 & Operational Plan 2019-2020:

Current priority

Council’s current cycleway priority is delivering the New South Head Road, Double Bay to Rose Bay Cycleway. A Development Application (DA) for the project has now been lodged and public exhibition of the cycleway will occur as part of the DA process. Once a determination has been made by the Woollahra Local Planning Panel (WLPP), a report will be presented to Council’s Finance Community and Services Committee on the outcomes of the public exhibition period and DA.

Budget commitment

Council has included $250k to deliver the Norwich Road/ Norwich Lane cycleway as part of the 2019/20 DPOP. This cycleway connection will connect the proposed cycleway on New South Head Road to the Newcastle Street/ Old South Head Road Shared Paths which will link Rose Bay to Waverley Council’s bike network.

Upcoming funding applications

Council has applied to the NSW RMS, under their 2019/20 Active Transport program, for grant funding for the following cycleway projects:

  1. Ocean Street to Edgecliff Interchange Cycleway – funding for investigation, design and implementation of a Shared Path cycleway along Ocean Street.
  2. O’Sullivan Road Bidirectional Cycleway (Rose Bay to Bondi) – funding to undertake concept and detailed design work on a high quality, safe, attractive and direct cycleway eroute between the Rose Bay Ferry Wharf and Bondi Beach.

Active Travel Working Party?

In relation to BIKEast’s suggestion to set up an Active Travel Working Party, the most appropriate forum to discuss the strategic priorities relating to cycleways and other active travel modes is the Woollahra Traffic Committee and Council’s Finance, Community and Services Committee which considers all travel modes including pedestrians, cyclists, motorists and public transport users. As always, the feedback from BIKEast and other stakeholders are welcomed by Council and the Traffic Committee.
