Sydney Eastern Suburbs Space For Health cycling initiatives

Below are a list of initiatives the local councils in our area have implemented to support social distancing requirements. (Will update as we go).

NSW Government

Transport

  • Crossing buttons automated in the CBD and health precincts (eg. Randwick). Link.

Planning, Industry & Environment

  • $15m Streets as Shared Spaces grant funding for local councils. Link.
  • Survey of ideas for local streets. Link.

Centennial Parklands

  • Car free weekend trial (over Easter weekend) extended to weekends in April and May. Link.

Randwick

  • The recent eNews included the following items.
    • Encouragement to order “Slow down in my street” Road Safety bin stickers. Link.
    • Anonymous Covid Survey to gather ideas around community changes –
      From businesses altering their product offering, to cafes switching to take away, to cyclists becoming more common than cars and kids and parents both working and schooling from home – all while social distancing has become the norm. And we want to hear how you’ve coped – the good and the bad; the ups and the downs. Link.
  • As a side effect of beach carpark closures, many families with school kids have been utilising the open space for learning to cycle.
