[UPDATE: In Dec 2020, we were informed that the Todman Ave pop-up cycleway was not proceeding due to technical challenges. Full details in Randwick Council papers.]
Great news from Transport for NSW this month with the announcement of two additional pop-up cycleways in Randwick LGA to support safe transport options for the community during COVID-19.
Randwick’s additional pop-up cycleways will be installed along:
- Todman Avenue, Kensington (connecting Green Square to CBD / UNSW)
- High St, Randwick (connecting existing CBD routes to Randwick / UNSW)
From Transport for NSW:
“We want to enable people to cycle and walk for short journeys to ease up pressure on the public transport network and allow for safe physical distancing practices.” said a Transport for NSW spokesperson.
“Working with local residents and businesses to address any concerns is a priority as we navigate the planning of the new cycleways,” the spokesperson said.

Transport for NSW will work with Randwick City Council to finalise the plans for the new pop-up cycleways. The community will be notified at least four weeks prior to any construction commencing or changes to the local road environment.

When we spoke to Randwick Council at the advisory committee this month, they advised implementation would happen by March 2021. We hope it will be sooner.
Sydney received their first six pop-up cycleways in the City of Sydney area earlier this year.
This month, new pop-ups were also announced for:
- Inner West Council: Trafalgar Street at Petersham and Railway Avenue at Stanmore (to connect Petersham Station to Newtown via Stanmore Village and Stanmore Station).
- North Sydney: Pacific Highway between Alfred Street and West Street.
