Northern Rivers Rail Trail Murwillumbah to Crabbes Creek Section

To Tweed Shire Council

Re: Tweed section: Murwillumbah to Crabbes Creek

Dear Mayor and Councillors

BIKEast strongly supports Rail Trails and this specific proposal.

BIKEast leads rides in Sydney and around the state.
Rail Trails are one of the key ways of attracting families and less skilled riders to an area, such as yours.

It would be highly beneficial for keen walkers and all kinds of bike riders, for the Council to decide that this project may proceed by awarding the contract as recommended.

It is a very significant project and will put Tweed on the intra-state, inter-state and international venture tourism (post Covidid-19 lockouts) map for walkers and cyclists. Retirees, families and people with less riding skills, are important groups to attract.

A very important feature of this project (and other Rail Trails) is that they are normally built on the formation and structures of the abandoned train lines.

BIKEast represents the community’s interests in getting around on bikes in Sydney’s eastern suburbs and eastern parts of the City of Sydney. We advocate for active transport and lead rides.

Our volunteers also serve a number of Cycling Without Age-Australia (CWAA) trishaws giving free rides to persons with outdoor recreational needs that are in care support at residential facilities or live in their own home. The Rail Trail may become a great outing opportunity for such residents and is currently being served by your own local CWAA Chapter.

Conclusion:
The project has been the outcome of great efforts; it is extremely pleasing to see it having reached the final stage to commit to construction.
BIKEast commends this project to Tweed Council and hopes that Councillors will decide to grant approval to permit it to proceed.

Kind regards-

Adrian Boss
