Dude, where’s my cycleway?

So, the community consultation is over, the report has gone to council and the council has endorsed the cycleway, this means that it will be completed next year, right?

Unfortunately not.  Infrastructure is expensive and there are funding hoops to jump through.

Local councils usually require the assistance of the state government (who is responsible for transport and roads) to help fund the projects.  For this funding to be received, the cycleways must align with the state policies and planning priorities.

Below is our rough guide to how this process plays out.

But what can I do?

Stay informed and keep the pressure on your elected representatives.

During community consultation, make sure your local councillors know you’re in support of the project and what it means to you.

During funding rounds, make sure your state councillors and the transport and roads ministers know you’re in support of the project and what it means to you.
