Randwick Council opened up community consultation for the detailed designs for proposed Walking and cycling improvements – South Coogee to Kingsford as part of their commitment to providing safe and healthy transport options to improve our streets and make them easier to walk and cycle along.
The consultation is open to the public from 29 October 2018 to 23 November 2018.
Construction Priorities & Funding Opportunity
South Coogee to Kingsford is Priority Number 4 on the construction list for Randwick Council. It is an important East / West route in the Randwick LGA cycling network.
The detailed design for this route has been funded by Transport for NSW Active Travel program due to its connectivity to the Sydney Light Rail stop.

BIKEast Submission to Randwick Council
BIKEast believes providing a safe and connected walking and cycling infrastructure will encourage people to take up these active forms of travel with its overwhelming individual and public benefits.
As such, BIKEast fully supports implementation of the proposed improvements at the earliest opportunity.
Out of the options of A or B, and C or D that were provided in the proposal, BIKEast strongly supports Option B and Option D, the two options that retain trees and the nature strip and we urge Randwick Council to find more locations along the route to add trees.
Our submission also emphasises the need for:
- Sufficient bike parking at key locations
- Building the local and regional bike network
- Supporting children riding to school through education, linkages and bike parking
- Increased tree and/or shrub plantings wherever possible
- Safe connection to Malabar Rd infrastructure
- Effective signal phasing to support people walking and and cycling
- Effective wayfinding
- Incorporation of the Australian Standard for on-street parking (currently under review) which will include increased requirements for disability parking
- Opportunities for additional “continued footpaths” to improve safety for people walking
- Combined bicycle / pedestrian lamps (lights) at traffic signals
